Dr. Kumar M is an environmental scientist, educator, and sustainability consultant with over fifteen years of experience dedicated to advancing sustainable development and climate action. At St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru, he serves as Assistant Professor and Postgraduate Coordinator for the M.Sc. Environmental Science and Sustainability programme, guiding students and researchers in exploring the complex interactions between environment, industry and society.
With specialized expertise in greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and carbon accounting, Dr. Kumar has led numerous environmental and sustainability projects for industries, institutions and organizations across India. His portfolio includes impactful collaborations with Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Indian Institutes of Management (Bangalore and Indore), the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, and Saint-Gobain Gyproc India Ltd., among others. These projects focus on carbon sequestration, ESG reporting, biodiversity assessment, water neutrality, and climate change mitigation.
Dr. Kumar earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Bangalore University, where his research on Inventorization of Greenhouse Gases in Bangalore Urban District provided one of the most comprehensive assessments of urban emissions in the region. He also holds UGC-NET, K-SET, and ICAR ASRB-NET certifications in Environmental Sciences, along with a Diploma in Industrial Safety.
As an active researcher and mentor, he has published more than 20 papers, contributed to books and national newspapers, and guided over 30 postgraduate dissertations. He is frequently invited to deliver lectures, workshops, and training sessions on topics related to environmental sustainability, ESG frameworks, and climate resilience.
Recognized by the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), Quality Council of India (QCI), Dr. Kumar is accredited as a Functional Area Expert in Ecology and Biodiversity (Category-A) and Soil Conservation (Category-B) projects. His work continues to bridge academia, industry, and policy, fostering a vision of sustainable growth grounded in scientific innovation and environmental stewardship.
